The Yuletide Archive is OPEN, and my gift is AMAZING and AWESOME and I am SWOONING over how much I love it!

Impressions is a story based on the Chris Colfer movie/novel Struck by Lightning, and I LOVE IT. I asked for future fic for the others in Carson's life after he dies, and even though the only character who actually loved Carson was his mother, that just makes it even BETTER.

*swoons* Please read and comment for my author!

So, my reply page and reply box on lj has been borked for quite a while, but i've never gotten around to figuring out why and it's well past time I took care of that.

It's currently a long list of choices or links or whathaveyou, and frankly, it's ugly and not-user-friendly and i hate it. and while i'm not on lj nearly as much as i was, i can't help but think that having a usable reply box might make it easier for people to actually, you know, reply to posts.

So, any ideas? My knowledge about themes is pretty non existent, but I would like to keep my banner and colors. I'm assuming it's a theme issue, but I really have no idea.

Suggestions? Insults? Whatever?

alianora: Sekime is rather skeptical of this plan (HK: Sekime!)
For no apparent reason, spurred by no readily available explanation, I am currently writing Hana Kimi Nakatsu/boy!Mizuki porn. I have over 1000 words already and, other than being naked (which doesn't count, as they STARTED naked), they haven't gotten far in the sexing.

Because my brain is FABULOUS and doesnt need to have seen canon or read any fanon in years in order to decide to porn people!

I need to post my gleemix fic here as well. It's on the AO3, but I like having everything here, too.

Until then, have a snippet of what I hope will turn into decent porn:

DO NOT DISTURB.

Without letting himself even consider what he was doing, Nakatsu slapped the small sign up on the door of Mizuki and Sano's room and tightened the towel around his waist.

The last time he had done this, he had merely slipped in for a second to grab the shampoo - before he had really known Ashiya, before he had started having thoughts about Ashiya - it hadn't occurred to him to look at that point. The lock was still easy to pick - a stiff piece of cardboard slipped swiftly up the crack in the door, and the steam wafted out around Nakatsu's ankles as he stepped up into the small bathroom.

The dim shape of Mizuki was behind the curtain, although he had gone still when the door slipped open. "Hello?" Mizuki's soft voice called out, nervousness edging his already high tone higher. The figure reached for the curtain, and Nakatsu took a breath, letting his eyes close for a second.

"Hi!" he chirped, and threw open the curtain. Mizuki froze, one pale hand slipping to his face, and the other one dropping in an attempt to cover himself. Nakatsu ignored Mizuki's startlement, ignored the flush on his cheeks, ignored the droplets of water slipping down Mizuki's skin in order to barrel forward with this insane plan. Nakatsu stepped forward and pulled the curtain behind him, warm water pattering onto his chest and dripping onto the towel still wrapped around him. Mizuki stepped backward, eyes wide, and Nakastu grinned a trifle maniacally. "It is much better to share a shower," he scolded the smaller boy, keeping his eyes on Mizuki's face through sheer force of will. "We must be kind to Mother Earth!"

Congregation already has over 500 views and 37 kudos on the AO3 and I only posted it last night. Is this what it's like to be involved in a big fandom and a popular OTP?

HOLD ME. I AM OVERWHELMED.

Currently working on the sex pollen fic, which i'm taking the whole idea of and warping the hell out of to better fit with a fic I started forever and ever ago, which will look very familiar to [personal profile] anenko and involves a total idiot and a closet dork who is weak to that idiot's dumb ideas. YAY!

Also in under construction - a Firefly fic that I've had sort of done forever. Which I can't make fit any of the tropes, dammit.

I am ATTEMPTING to hit a bingo, so if anyone has any prompt suggestions or even fandom suggestions, I could use them. Here's what I'm going to try and fill:

Day at the Beach
Presumed Dead
Sex Pollen

There are others in there that I want to do (de-aged, space au, apocalypse, genderswap), but they won't hit a bingo for me. And while the purpose of this is to get me back in the habit of writing, it would make me feel very fulfilled and happy to actually hit a bingo.

Or, the history of my yuletide participation.

2004:
Tunnels - The Great Escape
Danny digs.

I will freely admit this one kind of sucks. Honestly, I don't know what I THOUGHT The Great Escape was, but it wasn't this movie. Which I had never seen before. So there was scrambling to find it and watch it and panic and BEARS EVERYWHERE. My sincere apologies to my recipient.

2005:
Jaded - Bulletproof Monk
He still calls her Bad Girl.

Bulletproof Monk fic is something I would never have even considered before, but I jumped all over it, because I LOVE Jade and Kar. This was a New Year's Resolution fic.

Birth - Constantine
Angela never thought she would have a child.

This is one I'm really proud of, because I knew pretty much what I wanted to do, and this gave me an excuse. It was a major pain in the ass and there were many many Bears, because the damn thing didn't cooperate for quite a while, but I still love it.

2006:
Sticks and Stones - Young Wizards
Sometimes, it's not the end of the world.

I was SO EXCITED when I got this assignment, as it was for [livejournal.com profile] magelette, who I love and adore and talk to all the damn time, so getting her as my recipient was worth flailing and giggling. Ultimately, I decided on her Young Wizards prompt, even though I could have written several of her requests, but Nita and Kit are too awesome. I'm still rather pleased by it - I wanted something where there was no major threat, just everyday wizardry, and I think that came through well.

2007:
Control - The Inside
She was only a little girl, after all, and what do little girls know about power?

This remains, to this day, one of the most disturbing things I've written. I actually had started it way before I signed up to write The Inside for yuletide, but the idea freaked me out so I stopped it. When this request came through, though, I started poking at it again. I did manage to not totally freak myself out by editing out the actual rape and molestation, but there needs to be trigger warnings all over this thing, because it's not a happy story. And i'm very proud of it. Because freaking YOURSELF as the author out is fairly amazing.

2007 Treats:
Fabulous - The Incredibles.
It's just Edna, darling. When are you coming to see me?

This is probably my most "famous" yuletide story, which shocked the HECK out of me, as I wrote it in less than 30 minutes and uploaded it purely on the fact it made me giggle. Of COURSE Edna is a Super. Why wouldn't she be?

Fierce and Free - Legend
What care I for human hearts?

I want to be Oona when I grow up. I love how fierce she is and how manipulative.

Mute - The Young Riders
Ike, in silence.

Ike is probably my favorite of the boys, I will admit to it. And the challenge of writing something for him and Buck was too much to resist.

Fairest and Fallen - Young Wizards
Greetings and defiance.

I REALLY like how this one turned out. The Lone Power in many different forms, but always there for Nita.

2008:
A Horse and Her Boy - The Young Riders
It had only taken one split second for him to fall head over heels.

For the SECOND TIME, I got [livejournal.com profile] magelette as a recipient, and you should have seen my face when it happened. I laughed forever. I have no idea how she didn't guess it was me this time around, because we generally swap fics to beta, and when I didn't send her my yuletide to beta..yeah. But this is Kid and his horse, Katy, and how he's so massively in love with her I have no idea how he managed to fall in love with Lou.

2008 Treats:
A Plate of Wonderful Marriage Pasta - Smiling Pasta
Do your best, He Qun and Xiao Shi! Here is amazing pasta made especially for you by your grandfather, with good wishes and good luck! This pasta is 'Wonderful Marriage' and will bring you many years of happiness if you eat it together!

Written, with love, for [personal profile] anenko, because who else but me would write Smiling Pasta fic? I love the pouty feeling of Xiao Shi in this, and I'm very happy with it, even though no one else has seen this twdrama or will ever read it.

2009:
Mostly Harmless - Young Wizards
A peaceful, easy mission? Yeah, right.

The request involved wanting something set in winter, but instead of thinking HAPPY CHRISTMAS FIC! I decided to strand them in a cave and try to kill them off. It made sense at the time. Not one of my favorites, and I struggled with it, because I couldn't decide if I wanted to fix the problem or leave it open. I left it open.

2009 Treats:
A Girl's Best Friend - The Breakfast Club
Before she went to bed Friday night, Claire took the diamond out of her ear and set it on the counter carefully. She wondered what would happen.

The Breakfast Club is one fandom I'm not really in. I've read a couple of fics, but almost all of what you can find is Brian/Bender, and while I'm all for slashing, the OTP of my heart for this one is Claire/Bender, and I've always wondered what on earth would happen at school that Monday.

In Silence, Coming Home - Fionavar Tapestry
Dave and Kim arrived back on earth on a Wednesday.

Davor of the Axe is my favorite character in the Tapestry, and I can't help but wonder how you adjust back to our world after Fionavar, especially when you've lost so much and changed everything you were in your old life.

2010:
Ordinary - Mei-chan no Shitsuji
Ordinary is the best, or five times Mei wasn't a lady.

I will admit to kind of loving how this turned out. I rarely write five things fics, but this one just worked best this way. What would happen to Mei or Rihito or even Mameshiba if something had gone just a little differently anywhere along the way?

2011:
The Smallest of Things - Push
When he comes back to wherever they're living at the time, she's generally sprawled out over the sagging couch with her legs in ripped tights tossed over the arm rest and her markers all over the place. When he's there with her at their current little crap hole of a hotel, she's constantly talking, shoving her drawings in his face, and leaving the bathtub tile splashed with weird colors from her experiments with hair dye. When he takes off for a while, she's yelling after him to pick her up something to eat and for god's sake, Nick, duck when the lady with the fish smiles or don't turn left after dinner, dumb ass.

Push is one of those fandoms where everyone on earth ships the badwrong underage ship. Everyone. But, as much as I ship it, I think Cassie and Nick are more for each other, too. I tried to straddle the line between family and more than, and I think it came off ok, although it's not one of my favorite stories I've written.

2011 Treats:
With Mortal Hands, I'll Build a Castle - Care Bears
It was..strange to have a heartbeat. And skinned knees and runny nose and emotions, of all things.

It's Dark Heart adjusting to being human and having Kristy around and what all these pesky feelings are. I saw the prompt and jumped on it, because omg my childhood ships!

AND FINALLY!!! Because I just realized I never actually did my reveal for this year..

2012:
No Romeo - Footloose (1984)
Ren had started something, just by being there. Just by being there, and different, and too stubborn by half to back down.

I watched the clip of "Let's Hear It For the Boy" about 400 times before writing this, mulling over Willard and how his life would probably end up. And maybe my slash goggles are completely firmly in place, because the request for Ren/Willard made perfect sense to me. But then, I COULDN'T not have Ren in love with Ariel, so I had to throw that in, too.

1. I spent all day ALL DAY yesterday sick in bed. I was up twice for about 15 minutes at a time, and then I gave up and went back to bed. I'm still really lightheaded, but I have moved my burrito of blankets downstairs to the floor so I can at least be with the husband and Voldemort - one of whom is asleep on the couch and the other is creeping his way into my blankets with the intent of stealing them away. WHICH IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

2. We're watching Phineas and Ferb and I CANNOT CANNOT CANNOT be the only one who ships Bufort/Baljeet. I just can't. And I need to have fanfiction. I need it.

3. Things that suck: Attempting to proofread a story which features bulimia and extreme talks of food while very ill with stomach flu. This isn't going well.

YULETIDE YULETIDE YULETIDE! *cavorts happily*

Totally one of my favorite times of year! I get presents! And get to feel fannish!

I didn't end up writing any additional fics, even though I had TONS of requests saved and started one or two. Maybe later.

BUT! I got TWO stories - one in the regular collection, and one madness!

My regular collection story is If There Were Ever a Lucky Kind, which is Kelly Armstrong's Darkest Powers series, and it takes an awesome look through Derek's eyes at Chloe and how she gets under his skin and somehow ends up standing inside his innermost circle of "People to protect." LOVE LOVE LOVE!

AND!

My madness fic is It's an Institute, which is Wedding Wars fic and it's ADORABLE and Ted is so very long suffering over Shel's insanity, but his love for Shel comes through, as does his insecurity, and I just love it so much!

*spins*

YULETIIIDE!! I've barely glanced at the rest of the archive, holy heck, so many fics to read!
alianora: "Stop that, my hands are dirty." Leia/Han (STARWARS: I'm nice men.)
Yuletide DONE and BETA'D (sort of) and UPLOADED and HA!

*strikes pose*

As always, thanks to Mylan, whose lj/dw name I can't spell correctly right now. I've typed it twice and it looks wrong no matter what, so I'm ignoring it.

The list of ALL requests for yuletide went up, and I will be making my way through the list to see if anything pokes at the muse. Fingers crossed I can keep this whole writing thing going.

Exercise #3:
Brainstorm character names. At least 25 different first and last names, middle if you so choose. This assignment is due by midnight tonight and worth 10 points. Be creative! Have fun!

I won't bother you with my list, because the fun part of this challenge was part 2:

Choose five of the names from each other's list and write a short bio about that person. For example: Age, location (in time and space), traits, bad habits, good habits, aspirations, dreams hopes, hates, relationship/family/work status, emotional stability, strengths, weaknesses, where they've been, where they're going. Bios can be as long or short as you want.

So, from Missa's list, the five I chose were Prudence St. Thomas, Jimmy Pickle, Molly Shannon McElroy, Ambrosia McBride, and Thackery Maximillian Everhart, III.

Names names names )

I have to say, I'm kind of in love with Molly Shannon. She's a badass, and I might have to write more about her.

In other news, I've hit threat level: BEARS BEARS BEARS with my yuletide. I just...can't decide where it needs to go. And I swear I've read Mylan's yuletide, but I keep not writing back about it. I am clearly doing a stellar job of this year's yuletide.
alianora: Simon, half drunk and smiling (FIREFLY: Simon Smiles)
Challenge #2:
Think of the worst job you could ever have. Specifically you could have. Not just garbage man or waste treatment facility, but something you would be horribly suited for and would find utterly distasteful based on your own aesthetics.

Something outside the box.

Now write 200 to 400 words about the character who loves that job.

I'm not quite sure I did it justice (especially compared to the Divine Ms M's take on it), but hey, I WROTE IT.

it took someone like Anna )

I can remember when I could sit down and bang out a thousand words without blinking, and now it's a struggle to get past 200. *sigh*

In Yuletide news:
THERE ARE NO BEARS. HA. I started it - it looks like it will be plotless, because I rarely actually write plot - just character stuff, but I have started it, and I like what I have, and while I still need to review canon to make sure I have a solid grasp on dude, I feel like it might work out just fine.

...that might change by the weekend, but hey, at the moment, there are no bears. None.

Goodreads: So, yesterday while I was avoiding my challenge and my yuletide, I finally got around to joining Goodreads, and in a sweeping moment (read: HOURS) of great life choices, rated over 500 books. Because I have emotional problems. Regardless, friend me if you like: ALIA READS ANYTHING NOT NAILED DOWN (IF I CAN PRY IT UP, IT'S NOT NAILED DOWN)
alianora: Sarah is lost (MOVIE: Lost in the Labyrinth)
So, the lovely Rinalin has graciously agreed to become a writing coach for myself and literarylemming, as we have both signed up for challenges and have atrophied writing muscles. To that end, she is setting us daily assignments and possibly awarding us points. I'm hoping I can collect enough points for a pony, but we'll see.

Yesterday's prompt was:
Setting
Free write 200 words (or longer) about at setting for a world where the everyone lives to be 150-175 years old. Elaborate on specifics (what room, building, city you'd set your scene in) or the world itself: how government, entertainment, finances, family units etc might function or dysfunction.

And here's what I came up with:

At age 30, Brandy still lives with her parents. Of course she does,
she's still just a child. People rarely move out into their own places
until they're at least 32 or older. And even then people will shake
their heads at the ridiculous choices kids make.

Brandy was born to a mom and a dad, she has 4 half siblings and 2
whole siblings, mostly from her parent's earlier marriage contracts.
She had heard in the old days, people frequently coupled up and stayed
together until they died, but she couldn't even imagine something that
strange. The very idea made her shudder - who would want to be forced
to face and deal with only one person for years and years and YEARS?
The marriage contracts made much more sense - 10, 15, 20 years with
individuals who were past the age of consent (35 or 32 in extreme
cases with parental permission), children or not, as you wanted.
Partings were usually amicable - nothing like the horror stories of
the past of couples who went through divorse. Divorce? Whatever it was
called.

Brandy's first-mother had dropped her off at school this morning, and
been on her way to her third-career. Her mother was still young - she
was only 64, so for her to be on her third-career was unusual, but
mother had rolled her eyes and said something about first-career being
a grave mistake - "much like your second father" - and brushed off all
concerns.

----
Awesome and plotty? Not really, but I like it, and I'm WRITING AGAIN.

I was greatly amused by the difference between mine and M's submissions, as hers was dark and involved the end of life and felt very creepy, and mine's all "carefree and stupid at 32!!"
alianora: Sakurai Sho from Arashi, hand over one eye (Default)
So, after almost 2 years of very little written production of ANYTHING whether fannish or not, and one entire year where I honestly dont think I wrote a damn thing except my yuletide fic, because heck if I'm going to let that fall by the wayside, I lost my mind and signed up for a Big Bang challenge.

I signed up for the [community profile] cripbigbang, as it sounded like something I would actually maybe possibly follow through on. I always have thinky thoughts about characters with disabilities and how they're portrayed in media (see also: my screaming frustration with Glee and Artie's wheelchair), and it's open to any fandom, and..and..i really miss writing. Like, really.

There are a number of characters I think I would like to try to write, and original fiction is an option, too, which is good as I've had a gay romance on my mind where one character is Deaf..although I might save that, as if i actually write it, i'd want to send it to Torquere and see if it's publishable.

...and seeing as I just proofread GAY SANTA PORN from Torquere, I'm hoping it would be.

So, I have until May 1 to write 10,000 words about character(s) with a disability and oh my holy what was I thinking? *terror*

**ETA to add a link to [community profile] fandom_stocking because that sounds fun, too. I'm going to claw my way back into feeling fannish and happy if it's KILLS me.
