You may not need to know this, but what the hell: when I saw this, I made the 'Woo!' sound. Yes, because I was looking forward to it that much.
This part was just awesome and I loved Jayne and River. The way Jayne started it, just thinking about himself and then about the crew and then about River-nicely done. And his voice was dead on, I could see this scene happening. River was also perfect, in the way she was refusing to move, just in case. To the way that she was actually scared of herself and not wanting anyone to see her in the state she was in. And the way she didn't look at the Reavers. (that reminded me of her 'don't look' thing from 'War Stories') Loved it!
When those doors opened-one of the best things to ever image on screen. And the way River turned to the Feds-it sent chills through me. So, I've been wondering just how they got her to put the weapons down. You answer to it was all I needed. Thank you.
Oh, and one last thing:
She kept her eyes on him that whole walk out, past the Reavers and the Feds, and her little hand was trembling just a bit. Like she was a little afraid her own self about what she could do.
He kept talking to her, figured it might help keep her calm. “Almost there, little girl. Just keep moving.” The Feds were backing up from them, guns still trained on the girl. And gorram if that didn’t make him all kinds of uncomfortable.
Her lip trembled, and she moved a little closer in to him. “Don’t let them see me. They’re all scared of me.” She was shaking a little worse, and clutching to his hand tight as she could. Her other hand crept up around his bicep and she pressed her face to his arm. He could feel tears sliding down his arm, and he tried to pull her a little closer to him. A little bit further away from the Feds.
“Just keep walking, darling. We’re almost there.”
That bit is by far my favorite. Could totally see it playing out that way. Because I don't think River will ever be okay with what she can do and it'll always scare her a bit. So glad you included it.
